Small businesses, medium-sized companies and the largest corporations all have to deal with the same threats of drugs in their workplace. Like any form of prevention, the deterrent must be visible, consistent and enforced.
When would K-9 drug detection services be needed?
Here are a few typical examples.
Drugs in the home?
A mom in an affluent suburb begins to notice that things aren’t “right” with her daughter. The young woman has started to associate with different kinds of friends. She is no longer open about where she spends her time away from home. She seems unable to focus.
The mom understands that these may be signs of drug abuse. While it is difficult to believe her daughter is into drugs, the mom wants to be sure. On Saturday afternoon, she learns that her daughter will be out of the house for several hours in the evening.
She places a call to Superior Canine Services. We respond right away and conduct a search of the house while the young woman is away. No drugs are detected, giving the mom at least a little peace of mind, knowing that the home is drug-free. We also provide additional resources to the mom, who wishes to further explore her daughter’s issues.
What’s in that locker?
Security cameras at a private high school pick up activity in the hallway. Several days in a row, monitors notice groups of students congregating in front of a particular locker for no obvious reason. The student assigned to this locker is a known trouble-maker.
School officials need to find out what’s going on, but as a prestigious, elite school, they don’t want word to get out that they are conducting a drug search.
The principal decides to contact Superior Canine Services. We pay a quiet, unobtrusive visit to the school to review the activities calendar for the next few days. The school will be empty tomorrow night after 10 p.m. That’s when our trained handler and canine drug detector are scheduled.
On inspection, our team detects the presence of marijuana at the locker and passes this information along to school authorities for handling according to their policy.
Why are there so many shipping errors?
Concerned with an increase in customer complaints, the operations manager of a suburban warehouse takes a close look at what’s going on in the shipping department. It turns out that the shipping clerk has been tardy a number of times recently and seems to be taking lunch breaks longer than allowed. Personnel records show that the employee has previously received a written warning for tardiness and errors.
Suspecting that drug use may be involved, the operations manager understands that this can’t be allowed to continue. Other employees, who probably know what’s going on, must see that management won’t tolerate this kind of behavior.
The Superior Canine Services team is retained. We review the layout of the facility and determine from the work schedule when the greatest number of shipping employees will be on duty.
Our drug-sniffing dog detects the presence of cocaine. The shipping clerk is referred to the HR department for disciplinary action. And the rest of the employees have just gotten a lesson about actions and consequences.
